Sega Interview -
Hot on the heels of Sega's big announcement, Gamepen has posted a interview with Sega's very own PR Reps. Here is a taste:GamePen:
The announcement states that Sega will be developing for the Game Boy
Advance and PlayStation 2 and is currently negotiating with Microsoft
and Nintendo for the GAMECUBE and Xbox. Will titles released for one
console be released for all of them? Will Sega be favoring one console
over another?
Gwen/Sega: We will review our games for different platforms on a case
by case basis. We will also look at the local market to determine if a
game should be released. For example, while Virtua Fighter 4 will be
released for the PlayStation 2 worldwide, the Sakura Wars title and the
Let's Make a Pro Sports Team series will be made for Japan only. There
is currently no preference to make games for one platform over another.
Lots of stuff covered in the interview, if you are a Sega fanatic you may want to scope this out.

Sega Scraps Dreamcast -
Just when Sega finally had me believing
they were firmly backing the Dreamcast again, they have officially
announced that they plan to stop producing the Sega Dreamcast Console.
The whole story is over at Yahoo, and if you have a Dreamcast, or were
planning on purchasing one you should definitely give it a read.

Shenmue 2 Trailer -
In order to get the damned hype machine
rolling, AM2 has sent IGNDC a brand spanking new trailer featuring the
highly anticipated Shenmue 2. What's in it? I thought you would never
ask:Sega’s made it all better, though. This morning, they
released a new trailer, with four minutes and thirty seconds of fresh
footage. Click below, and check out the rendered streets of Hong Kong,
a smattering of new friends and enemies, and LOD technology that allows
dozens of characters to be displayed on-screen at one time. Judging by
what we see, the action component has been kicked up to eleven, and we
can’t wait to get our hands on it. Finished the first and eagerly anticipating more? Download it, now, or else.

Sega Situation -
Over the past few days there has been
much controversy over Sega. Newstories have been popping up left and
right saying this gaming Console manufacturer will be closing it's
doors, and start making software for the PS2, Gamecub and X-Box.
Following the publically denied rumors that Nintendo would be buying
Sega, it is anyones guess if these latest vollies of information are
true. Dailyradar published a news article
stating that Sega has halted it's production of the Dreamcast, and will
make no more new consoles. Here is the a quote from that article:Sega
will cease production of its Dreamcast game console by the end of
March, according to the Jan. 24 edition of Japanese newspaper, the
Nihon Keizai Shimbun. Sega will attempt to reverse its recent economic
downturns by concentrating its resources on the development and
marketing of game software for consoles such as Sony's PlayStation2 and
Nintendo Game Boy Advance.
No new orders will be accepted for the Dreamcast, the Nikkei news
service reported, but the company will continue to assemble new units
from parts already in stock. According to the report, Sega will
continue marketing its Dreamcast in the fiscal year 2001, but will halt
sales once the inventory of consoles is exhausted. Sega plans to
continue to develop and market game software for this console, and the
report states approximately 100 Dreamcast games will be released this
year. CNN however has posted a article which denies the rumors that Sega will cease Dreamcast production. Here is a little taste of that:CNN)
-- Despite several published reports, Sega of America Inc. denied
Tuesday that it will be ceasing production of its Dreamcast video game
console, adding that suggestions the company would produce software for
its competitors were also misleading.
A statement from Charles Bellfield, Sega of America's vice president of
marketing and communications, said while the company has a policy of
not commenting on rumors, it "has not made any statement regarding
ceasing manufacturing of Dreamcast or development of other video game
platforms.
"Sega of America stated today that the company globally reaffirms its
commitment to Dreamcast," the statement reads. "In fact, Sega has more
than 100 games worldwide coming out for the platform next year." And
finally IGN has also posted an article where Sega states they are not
indeed stopping production on the Dreamcast, and this whole situation
was caused by a translation error. You can read that here. I honestly hope Sega isn't planning on leaving the console arena, as competition is great for consumers.

New Ask Hook -
Brian Hook, Former id software and
Verant Interactive programmer, has updated his Ask Hook column over at
Voodooextreme. This issue delves from the usual PC banter and talks
about Skies of Arcadia, one of the first *real* roleplaying titles for
the Sega Dreamcast. What does the man think of it?had
enough friends with consoles that whenver I wanted to play or see the
latest and greatest console game I could just pop over to their house
or office and check it out. Well, I finally got off my ass and bought
a...Dreamcast. That's right, a Dreamcast. I know I know, it's a dead
platform, but based on availability, quality of titles, and price, I
felt that a DC was a much better buy than a PS2 right now. To be
honest, the only game I've seen for PS2 that I've really liked is
Madden, and I don't like it enough to blow the $500 for a PS2 on Ebay.
Not when a refurbish DC is $129 at FuncoLand.
One of the games I bought was Skies of Arcadia, which had received
rave reviews but otherwise very little noise in the press. Well, Skies
of Arcadia won me over in a big way. First, it made me really like
console RPGs. Second, it made me really like consoles. Third, it made
me really like Japanese development house. Fourth, it made me realize
how sick I am of most "dark and edgy" (hi Erik! hi Chet!) crap games
that American developers keep pushing off of on the general gaming
populace. Dare to show the sun! Dare to be bright!
Go read the rest, pretty please.

Quake 3 Dreamcast Review -
Dreamcast.net, one of the authoritize Sega Dreamcast fansites, has just slapped up their review
of the Dreamcast version of Quake 3: Arena. Overall they gave it a 93%
(why is beyond me, Quake 3 is a rehash, and a bad one at that) and
recommend it to most Dreamcast players. Here is a taste:Quake
III is intended for all of us who have been sucking our thumbs at night
in anticipation over ID’s next masterpiece. These are many of the same
people who cut their teeth on classics like Wolfenstein 3D, and Doom.
Parents should be warned however that the gore levels in the Quake
series have only gone up with each of their newest offerings. Mom and
Dad might want to see what a rocket to the forehead looks like before
turning the controls over to little Billy.
I hated Quake 3 for the PC, I cannot even fathom playing it on the Dreamcast.
